Nuttelex Chooses Hydroflux for Reliable Trade Waste Compliance

April 29, 2025

Hydroflux was engaged to design and construct a complete wastewater treatment system for Nuttelex’s new production facility in Melbourne. The objective was to remove solids, fats, grease, and other contaminants prior to discharge to sewer, ensuring compliance with local trade waste regulations.

At the core of the system is Hydroflux’s HyDAF unit—a high-performance, rectangular counter-current dissolved air flotation (DAF) system—paired with an integrated chemical treatment process. This combination provides reliable removal of suspended solids and emulsified oils, making it particularly effective for applications in the food manufacturing industry.

“Our HyDAF technology has been installed in well over 100 industrial and municipal applications across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific,” says John Koumoukelis, CEO of Hydroflux Pty Ltd. “While the HyDAF is central to the process, it’s the know-how of DAF sizing, combined with the integration of ancillary technology and a deep understanding of the factory’s operation, that ensures long-term performance and compliance.”

The entire system, including all control and automation components, was manufactured locally in Australia. This enabled Hydroflux to deliver a fully customised solution with short lead times. The control system was tailored to meet the client’s specific requirements, including local interface preferences and PLC/HMI integration.

The successful delivery of the Nuttelex project highlights Hydroflux’s capability in providing turnkey wastewater treatment solutions that combine proven technology, local manufacturing, and deep industry expertise.
